Having migrated to RBC for a month, I need to say I quite like its email system. All issues (reissue of credit cards, account setup inquiry, general questions, etc) the family has, so far, can be resolved via email without the need to call or in person branch visit. No other banks I've dealt with (about 5 others) can measure up. Not sure if it's only true for VIP banking package clients as I for sure will change to a fully rebatable one after the fee waived 12 months. See if the customer service will drop by then.

I’ve been a RBC customer as well for about 10 years prior to my HSBC accounts being merged in. I’ve always found RBC responsive even by Secure Message, and I’ve often been able to make changes that would require calls or going to the branch at other banks. They also have more self-serve options like changing credit card product (even from Visa to Mastercard or vice versa). This is without VIP.

I need to move the funds this week to pay my HSBC USA Premier MasterCard statement.
If anybody else is having difficulty with accepting the Terms and Conditions for Global View, what worked for me is trying multiple different browsers. Chrome kept giving "Technical Error", Firefox couldn't even load the page, and Microsoft Edge was the only browser that would allow me to accept.
Global View only allows one to see the accounts though. To transfer, one has to set up a wire transfer.
What is the correct Routing Number for HSBC USA? My account says 022000020 but on the HSBC USA FAQs it says that it won't work for international wires, and to use 021001088 instead? Anybody have experience with this?

I used 022000020 with my RBC IMT and it works.

no experience (have only done US-to-US wire transfer with 022000020) but these are the 2 pages with relevant info -- I'd think the SWIFT code is the one to use:
https://www.us.hsbc.com/help/payments-t ... ent-wires/
https://www.us.hsbc.com/international-b ... -payments/ (under FAQ "What information do I need to provide the sender in order to receive a wire transfer?")

login, look in credit cards section. click Avion awards. Click on travel to confirm travel credit , you must book thru them ( like TD they seem to use Expedia engine)unlike HSBC where you were allowed to book anywhere. Dont know whether the cancel trick will work or not at RBC.

Thanks!
I was just going to post that 022000020 worked for me with International Money Transfer RBC to HSBC USA, despite the HSBC USA website saying that it doesn't work for international wire transfers. The transfer was completed within hours too. I only transferred US$100 as a test.

I think that is the minimum. Somehow RBC changed that. It was only 10CAD at beginning but now it want 100 at least.

hvc wrote: ↑right so it sounds like the migration doc is wrong. I never tried to transfer from HELOC to chequing account based on the doc..seems like I should try. I couldn't wrap my head around being limited to what you can/can't do in the chequing account with a $0 balance (ie. no etransfers, bank fees, etc.) and not being able to transfer from the HELOC to the chequing account as it effectively means you need a separate chequing account elsewhere - sounds like they've rethought that.
The linked chequing account can have cheques - I've ordered them and they clear fine. You can't order cheques for the HELOC.
any money you put into the chequing account just gets swept to the HELOC end of day. So, if you carry a heloc balance your chequing account will perpetually carry a $0 balance at the end of each day.
So to confirm your experience:
Day 1 - transfer from HELOC to chequing, funds are debited to the chequing immediately
Day 2 (or end of day 1) - credit to HELOC shows up for transferred amount net any sweeps necessary.
Confirming you can transfer from HELOC to chequing, so the original migration document was wrong. My beef is non-existent..I swear I tried to transfer from HELOC to chequing very early post-migration and it didn't work, but maybe the account hadn't fully migrated yet or something.

I checked my balances this morning and got charged the $399 annual fee for the Avion VIP for Private Banking credit card yesterday, despite having been charged and rebated the annual fee on the HSBC Metal card in early March. I called the credit card line through the app and was told that they did not recognize the HSBC annual fee period and could only offer the $199 rebate for PB customers or could downgrade the card. I read them the credit card terms in the transition package that indicated no annual fee and RBC's waiver of that annual fee in a footnote 3. They couldn't do anything over the phone and insisted that I visit a branch to show them the letter to get the fee reversed.
Full disclosure - I transferred out my holdings at RBC Di so that under the previous HSBC PCS criteria, I would have reverted to Premier and continue to have some GICs there. If I have been booted from RBC PB, I have received no notifications and my online banking continues to show the PB chequing and Visa accounts.
Check your posted transactions! I haven't even received the first statement for this card yet and have little intention of retaining it now.

- Applied online to Expat on April 4th
- Got an email from HSBC Expat case manager on the 11th, asking me to upload passport photo, the reason is they don't accept driver's license( though their site says it's accepted )
- Uploaded passport photo the same day.
- Got an email from HSBC Expat case manager on the 16th saying my application has been turned over to their account opening teamSo if you are applying as well, use your passport photo, not driver's license.
I'm expecting the account to be up and running this week, fingers crossed.
Update:
- Received confirmation the Expat account is ready on May 2nd
- Setup and linked to other HSBC account with no problem
- Opened global money account and ordered debit card on May 2nd
The current HSBC Expat status shows Premier( before link ), I hope this will keep all other countries status as premier as well.

I did get 5.5% -- there're two interest payment lines both dated May 2nd -- "Deposit interest" and "Bonus deposit interest" which combined equal 5.5% for me.
Btw I did not get the 5.5% bonus email notification from RBC.

Sorry to hear your trouble, but now we've a data point for the annual fee for the RBC Avion VIP for PB. Thanks!
The RBC transition docs do not mention needing to maintain a minimum asset level to keep PB for this first year. I think you've a case -- good luck!

Wheeler did transfer out, to no longer satisfy PB criteria. RBC can argue you're now not PB because you transferred funds out.
Anyway, would be interesting for us to all know how this goes.

Hi everyone,
As a warning, Amex doesn’t accept the new transit numbers yet it seems. I set up a pre-authorized debit using the new rbc details, and it failed a few days ago on the due date. I noticed today and had to provide CIBC details to push a payment through. As it’s my first missed payment amex said it should be fine, but I’ve called RBC and asked them to open an investigation, and provide a letter to amex explaining the issue; they’re currently looking into it.

Typically as long as the payment is received before your next statement is generated you'll be fine, just don't make a habit of it lol
I've gaffed twice and paid it a day or two late because I didn't set the future payment up right (or forgot to confirm and thought I did) and then stressed about it but I've never incurred interest (Amex or MC) or any missed payment notes on my credit file.

I got the 5.5% email… but did not get the interest! I had my doubts about this so I left a couple hundred bucks in the acct to confirm whether they would honor the rate, since I have the same rate at Tangerine until end of Jun. Guess I can zero out my liquid accounts at RBC now.
