Terraria: Who Is Estee and What Does She Do? (2024)

Terraria, like many other games, has pets. Some of these pets are useful and can make exploring this sandbox world much easier, and some are less useful and can be considered nothing more than a vanity item. In today’s article, we’re going to analyze one specific pet, Estee. Estee was added in version 1.4.0.1, and since her appearance, she has generated much interest. Let’s see who is Estee in Terraria and what does she do.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Estee is a pet follower that is summoned when you equip Celestial Wand. Celestial Wand is purchased from Traveling Merchant for 1 platinum coin.
  • Estee is a purely cosmetic pet; she will follow you, but she doesn’t have any real purpose like many other followers in Terraria.
  • Estee leaves a trail of light behind her, but it doesn’t light up blocks and that makes her a rather poor source of light.

Who is Estee in Terraria?

Estee is a star-shaped pet in Terraria. She looks like a flickering common star, and if you’re moving at high speed, jumping up or falling down, as she accelerates, she will leave a trail of light, resembling that of a falling star.

Estee was inspired by Power Stars from the 1996 platform gameSuper Mario 64 and served as a reference to Rosalina fromSuper Mario Galaxy.

You can change Estee’s appearance by equipping reflective obsidian dye in the pet dye slot. In that case, she will look like stars that have already been collected. In the image below, you can see her default look as well as her look altered by the reflective obsidian dye.

You cannot purchase Estee outright; she is only a buff given to you by Celestial Wand item. Celestial Wand is purchased from Traveling Merchant.

How to get Celestial Wand?

As we’ve said, you can purchase Celestial Wand from Traveling Merchant for a price of 1 platinum coin. It belongs to the pink rarity tier, which makes this item relatively rare. If you get bored of Estee you can sell the wand for 20 gold coins, considering the price you had to pay for it, I wouldn’t advise you to sell it. Even though Celestial Wand is well, a wand, it doesn’t deal damage, it only has a “summon” effect, the one that summons Estee.

Celestial Wand is a part of a vanity set called “Star Princess”. Star Princess Dress and Star Princess Crown are a part of a set as well. Both of those items are rare and can be purchased from Traveling Merchant. Both Star Princess Dress & Crown cost 50 gold each, which means for the whole set, including the celestial wand, you will have to pay 2 platinum coins.

The set is purely cosmetic and equipped in social slots. It does not alter your defense, only your visual appearance.

What does Estee do?

When Estee buff is active she follows you around, even though she is a star and leaves a light trail behind her, she does not give off any light. There are numerous light pets available in Terraria, such as Wisp, Magic Lantern, Pumpkin Scented Candle, and many others, but sadly, Estee is not one of them. Estee can’t be controlled, either. She is a 100 % passive and cosmetic pet.

Is Estee worth purchasing?

Estee is worth purchasing if you’re a fan of the Super Mario franchise. Or you’re a fan of the “Star Princess” vanity set. If you’re a completionist type of person, go for it. But if you’re expecting some kind of real use out of Estee, don’t bother. For such a steep price of 1 platinum coin, she is definitely not worth it. There are more useful pets in the world of Terraria that are relatively easier to acquire and can provide you with assistance. The game changer would definitely be if Re-Logic decided to make Estee a light pet. But considering that there are other light pets, cheaper to acquire out there with more functions, the price still might seem high.

You can buy Magic Lantern from Skeleton Merchant for 10 gold coins. The Magic Lantern emits dim light and exposes nearby treasure. And that’s just the first light pet follower that came to my mind. There are loads more.

To sum everything up, Estee is a cosmetic pet you can acquire from the Traveling Merchant for a price of 1 platinum coin. She does not light up blocks, which makes her usefulness extremely limited. Considering the high price you will have to shell out for this item and the fact that it’s pretty much passive, she’s probably not worth the effort.
