The queer stories of women's baseball are fascinating, and this article played an important role in bringing the stories out of the closet into which the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League shoved them for so long. Definitely worth reading!#LGBTQHistory #GayHistory #History

"Controversy is only dreaded by the advocates of error." -Benjamin RushIs this women's big basketball moment? The criticism of Angel Reese in the face of the Louisiana State University Women's Basketball team National Champion is clearly racism. There's no other way to define it. And yet, if you're an advocate for this game that Women play excellently, you might be excited about how much more conversation is taking place this week about the quality of the Women's Final Four than ever before in history. Is it good for the game? Possibly. Do you remember 1979? I don't, because I wasn't born. But the story is well documented. Earvin "Magic" Johnson, of middle class Black upbringing, beats Larry Bird, of poorer White upbringing, to win Final Four MVP, starting an on-court rivalry that would last for nearly two decades spanning their NBA careers. The rivalry spreads into the national conversation, but fueled by race. It drives TV ratings, not just because their teams are playing amazing basketball, but also because it supports a race narrative. Bird had a large share of White America rooting for him, and Black America was proud to see themselves reflected in Johnson. Fast forward to today and it feels like something similar is brewing. Angel Reese, this year's Most Outstanding Player in the Women's Final Four, is an unapologetically Black queen, from Baltimore, MD. Her mother and father both played professional ball in Europe. Caitlin Clark is well on her way to becoming one of the best Women's players ever. Her parents are working class, and, according to the Iowa Hawkeye's website, 11 of Clark's family members have played collegiate sports. The game between Reese's LSU and Clark's Iowa had 9.9M viewers. That's more than any MLS game or NHL Stanley Cup (source: Front Office Sports). But to look at the comments on posts about this across the internet, you would see a clear divide between the supporters on either side of this game that just took place. An overwhelming majority of comments about the ratings being "solely because of" Clark come from white users. Advocates for Reese and LSU are mixed, but have a much higher majority of marginalized (Black and Asian, in particular) users. Some of this is due to trash talk. More of it is due to racism. But, perhaps, more interestingly, significantly less of it is now fueled by sexism. And so I wonder, are we seeing 1979 again? Will racism drive Women's Basketball to new heights? Will misogynists now put away their genderism in support of a more racist sentiment? My hope is no. My hope is that people see this for what it truly is -- the Women's game is great, and worthy of attention based on the talent and caliber of ladies playing this game. #LSU #Iowa #womensbasketball #NCAA #FinalFour #AngelReese #CaitlinClark #racism #sexism #equality #media #ratings #sports #basketball https://lnkd.in/g2Pu5DxY

In the heart of Harlem during the Roaring Twenties, a basketball revolution was silently unfolding. Amidst the vibrant backdrop of jazz, dance, and literary renaissance, a team arose that would forever alter the landscape of American sports. The New York Renaissance, fondly known as the Rens, wasn't just a team—it was a symbol of hope, resilience, and unparalleled talent in the face of systemic racism. This is the tale of how a group of pioneering Black athletes, led by visionary Robert L. Douglas, took to the court to challenge societal norms and, in doing so, etched their name into the annals of basketball history.Learn more >>> https://lnkd.in/es5sTbWm#NewYorkRens, #BasketballLegends, #BreakingBarriers, #HarlemHoops, #RensRevolution, #BlackExcellence, #BballPioneers, #RensLegacy, #1920sBasketball, #FromHarlemToHistory, #Trailblazers, #SportsHeroes, #RacialEquality, #GameChangers, #HoopDreams, #BeyondTheCourt, #BasketballHistory, #RensDominance, #BarnstormingBball, #HoopsAndHope, #BballInnovation, #RensResilience, #HarlemHistory, #HistoricHoops, #AmericanSportsLegacy, #BlackAthletesRise, #SportsAndSociety, #BasketballTrailblazers, #RensImpact, #RacialBreakthroughBasketball.

I find this to be an interesting post. In an age where we have truly lost our way in trying to understand one another, and being right is the stand point we take in a discussion, where do you go from this craziness. We talk about democracy as being about equal rights and opportunity, yet in a society, where the rich have choice and they do not understand how that choice, oppresses people with no money, it seems like we have a long way ahead of us. Luckily, I think young people are questioning this madness, and hopefully, we of the generation that created this system, can elevate ourselves to listen, so that change can begin to happen. Who cares how or who created it, let’s change it and truly allow equal opportunity to bring about true equality.

If you missed this excellent program, catch it on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) iview. One might ask why hom*ophobia is still part of the #AFL, particularly when the women’s league is so inclusive. As the program points out, hom*ophobia (and sexism) starts from a very early age, with junior players projecting hyper masculine beliefs and behaviors in locker rooms and on the field - with presumably no intervention. Ending hom*ophobia (sexism, racism, ableism…) starts with education. It starts with sensitivity training. It starts with accountability. It starts with us.#LGBT rights are human rights. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to insult, injure or discriminate.

Two baseball games, two adults -- one man, one woman, and two kids -- a girl, and a boy!The baseball lands up in the audience.See the interaction between the woman and the girl in the first half, and then the one between the man and the boy in the second half!I will avoid talking about modern (toxic) feminism for a while, but what do you think about modern feminism and masculinity based on the interactions seen in this video?
