Many thought these two schools would meet on Saturday, although the context was quite different than those previous expectations.

Both East Carolina and Wake Forest got upset on Friday, which meant that the two teams would meet with elimination at stake. Entering the final inning, it looked like East Carolina was set to be the first national seed to be eliminated

Instead, the preseason No. 1 Demon Deacons are headed home.

The Pirates actually entered the ninth inning sporting a 4-1 lead. but a five runs from Wake Forest in the top of the inning but East Carolina in a 6-4 hole.

That's where the Pirates bats came to play. East Carolina hit four consecutive singles to start the inning, tying the game in the process. That set the table for Luke Nowak, who delivered a walk-off single.

High Point 10, Vanderbilt 9

Vanderbilt has been a threat in the NCAA Tournament for years. This year, however, a trip to Omaha was not fated to occur.

After dropping its first game to Coastal Carolina, the Commodores needed to hold off High Point to stay alive. However, the Panthers were unwilling to cooperate.

Vanderbilt went up 5-0, but High Point tied it in the sixth and made it 9-5 in the seventh. The Commodores knotted it nine in the eighth and it looked like the game was destined to go to extra innings.

The Panthers, instead, benefitted from an error and some small ball to get a runner on third and Miggy Echazaretta clinched the win with a walk-off single.
