Blood In The Water / Mafia / Kim Taehyung - ~ 16 (2024)

"Hanna, I want you to stay," Jungkook begs me with pleading eyes. "Jungkook, I can't," I speak softly shaking my head. There was no way I could stay, not after what had just happened today.

"Hanna, please. I'm begging you. Where are you going to go? You can't go back to the life you were living before all of this," Jungkook says, staring so deep into my eyes I'm sure he could see my soul. I knew what his words really meant - I didn't have a life to go back to. I wasn't born for greatness, that had been taken from me pretty quick. I'd worked almost every day of my life since I'd turned sixteen but I've never been on any road to success. There was no one missing me, no one worried about where I had suddenly disappeared to and if I never had to see my rotting apartment ever again I wouldn't be sad about it.

"But Taehyung..." I begin but I'm cut off by Jungkook. "Forget him, this isn't about him. Just give it a week at least, I promise I won't let anything or anyone hurt you," he says extending his pinkie out in front of me. It seemed a little childish and inappropriate to be making a pinkie promise about something like this, yet, I find myself staring at his outstretched finger in contemplation. I should turn around and leave, I know I should but my heart often ruled my mind and it was the very reason I got myself in these kind of situations. I was born into this kind of life I'd just never known it, maybe this was my path in life. My pinkie wraps around his as I let out a heavy sigh. Jungkook's eyes widen in shock, clearly expecting his efforts to be merely futile.

"I'll stay, but we can't be any more than what we are now Jungkook." I look up at him through the strands of hair that covered my eyes. His face clouds over with an emotion I can't read and the corner of his lips seemingly want to fall into a frown but he doesn't let them. He takes a moment to regain composure before he shoots me a wide smile, taking my hand in his. The warmth of his skin is comforting but I can't help feeling like I'm still in danger - which I was. He doesn't give me a verbal response, instead he guides me back across the muddy fields to the dilapidated building.

As we enter I can hear voices echoing off the walls that become clearer as we get closer and I instantly recognise Taehyung's voice. I drop Jungkook's hand before we turn the corner to come face to face with the others once again. It goes deathly silent as they acknowledge our presence. I had never seen them look so surprised in the entire time I had known them. They'd been in some of the most dangerous scenarios you could conjure up, yet here they were, eyes widened at the sight of a mere girl.

"What is going on?" Taehyung asks, looking from me to Jungkook and back again. I could tell he was desperately trying to make sense of the situation and I couldn't help smirk slightly in response. "Hanna is staying," Jungkook says for me, mustering up the most authoritative voice he could. It's followed by another stretch of silence which seems to last forever. Taehyung is glancing at mine and Jungkook's hands which are close enough to brush against each other slightly.

"Fine," Taehyung pulls himself back together and straightens out his posture. "I guess since you're back," he smiles wickedly, "you can help us get rid of that other there," Taehyung points over to the black body bag laying in the corner of the room. He lifts his eyebrows at my horrified expression which I quickly wipe of my face. I couldn't show my emotions, Taehyung fed off fear.

"Okay," I respond, striding over to the bag and lifting a corner of it. "You going to help then or just stand around watching me?" I gaze up at the others with an eyebrow raised. They look between each other before coming over to help me without another word. Collectively we pick up the body and carry it outside the building. If I had actually cared for the man, lifeless over my shoulder I wouldn't have found it so easy to be in this position, but the cynical side of me, the side of me Taehyung had created, urged me forwards.

He is placed into the back of a car which drives off as soon as the door is shut. I watch as it fades in to the distance until I feel a presence behind me. I turn around to face Taehyung, already knowing who it was. My lips tilt into a small smile as I face him. Taehyung was hard to read at the best of times but the confusion was written on his face as if it was in bold, capital letters. "What did Jungkook say to you?" He asks, watching the others all pile into the other car which leaves once they are inside. I don't miss the hardened gaze Jungkook gives Taehyung out the window as he drives off. "What did he say to make you stay?" Taehyung studies my face carefully. I notice his eyes flick to my lips every now and again but I ignore it. He was doing it deliberately to try and make me fall into his trap.

"I don't think that's any of your business Mr Kim." He freezes at the name I had called him. Anger pools in his eyes and he chuckles lightly in disbelief. I knew he hated being called that because his surname was the only thing he had ever received from his father, the only last reminder of his life. It surprised me Taehyung had decided to keep the name, but maybe a part of him wanted to, maybe it was his way of justifying why he had turned out the way he had.

"Jungkook is still just a boy. He can't save you from everything this kind of life will throw at you." He leans his face closer to mine with his hands in his pockets, carefully studying my face.

"I don't need Jungkook to save me. I can do that myself. At the end of the day, you're the one who trained me," I smile, patting his shoulder. Taehyung tenses up and I chuckle lightly at his reaction. I walk over to the car that was waiting for us. Taehyung is still stood in the same spot I'd left him as I get in the back of the car. It requires a few seconds until he had also climbed into the back of the car and we leave, heading for the house. Taehyung doesn't say a word to me the entire journey back and I don't even spare him a sideways glance. "Thank you," I address the driver who nods in response as we pull up to the house. I get out and make my way up to the front door with Taehyung closely following behind. As I open the door, Jungkook peers out from the corridor and smiles when he sees me. His smile falters slightly as he makes eye contact with Taehyung behind me.

"I had your belongings moved to a new room closer to mine," Jungkook tells me once Taehyung has exited the room and isn't within earshot. Jungkook's room was on the opposite side of the house to mine and Taehyung's rooms. Taehyung would be furious when he found out what Jungkook had done and that only made me even happier. "Here, I'll show you," Jungkook adds, pulling me by my hip up the stairs and down a corridor slightly less familiar to me. I notice my room is now situated beside Yoongi's with Jungkook's just a few steps further down the corridor. Jungkook opens the door and we enter the new room. The room is slightly larger than my previous one but has the same furnishings and rather than a view of the driveway I now have a view of the garden.

"What do you think?" Jungkook asks, closely studying my expression. I open my mouth to reply but it shuts immediately as Taehyung appears at the door.

"Who said you could move your things into here?" Taehyung yells, the anger practically radiating off of him. I find myself taking a few steps backwards. "I did. I moved them," Jungkook closes in on Taehyung with his fists clenched. They were a fair match for each other, although Jungkook outperformed Taehyung in muscle and strength Taehyung made up for it in skill and tactic.

"Who gave you authority to start moving things where you want?" Taehyung seethes taking another step forward so the males were almost on top of each other. I notice the muscles in Jungkook's arm twitch in rage and I know it's not long before one of the makes the decision to physically and violently lash out.

"I don't need you to tell me what I can and can't do," Jungkook spits, pushing at Taehyung's chest, not enough to push him to the floor but enough to make him take a step back to regain his balance. That's all it takes to fully flick Taehyung's switch who immediately balls his hand into a fist and swings at Jungkook's face. Growls and grunts leave the two males as they knock each other down to the floor where they continue to pummel each other with their fists. It's not like some ordinary fight you witness on the street between drunken youths, no these are experts, trained in the art of inflicting as much pain as possible. It doesn't take long before the noise attracts the attention of the others who run into the room and grab hold of Taehyung and Jungkook. Before they can seize the fight Taehyung's fist collided hard with Jungkook's cheekbone and he instantly blacks out.

Taehyung stumbles backwards, held up by Namjoon and Jimin. His breathing is heavy and ragged as he stares down at Jungkook's unconscious body with no remorse. The slow rise and fall of Jungkook's chest is enough to lessen my worries of the beaten boy but it did nothing to take away the indescribable resentment I had towards Taehyung. I watch, exasperated as Yoongi and Hoseok struggle to haul Jungkook up and take him out of the room. Taehyung breaks free of Jimin and Namjoon's grip, looking at the three remaining of us. "The rules around here have not changed. Anyone who doesn't want to abide by my rules can leave this very second," Taehyung snaps. No one makes any attempt to move. "Good," he nods before leaving the room. I let out a deep breath to collect myself before setting on my way to find Jungkook.

"You know you're f*cking insane for coming back here," Jimin voices after me. I stop and turn around to face him, "take my advise and leave as soon as you get the opportunity," he speaks lowly and leaves the room with Namjoon.
