Character Customization and Marking Your Entry

ASKA: Beginner Tips and Tricks (2)

Before you start your adventure, you’ll need to create and personalize your character. Select the gender of the character (Male being Ragnar and Female being ASKA) and customize your appearance.

You cannot change the character’s gender or visual appearance once you’ve customized it. So, choose wisely.

The game starts near a shipwrecked boat on a beach where you can roam freely. However, you only start with the clothes you’re wearing and a flimsy water container. The beach where you land will be your respawn point at the beginning of the game. Once you’ve completed building The Eye of Odin, it will be your new respawn point.

If the Eye of Odin is demolished, the respawn point will switch to the Shipwreck again.

Keep an eye out for blue shinny crystals in the boxes near the wreck site. You’ll discover Jotun Blood, a resource that will help you call villagers to your camp.

Gathering Supplies

ASKA: Beginner Tips and Tricks (3)

It really goes without saying that you need to gather various resources to survive in survival games. In ASKA, you’ll need food, water, and various materials to craft tools.

Using your special ability, you’ll find Mussels, which are food items typically found around large stones on the beach. Since they are limited in quantity, it’s better to use them wisely.

Food will go bad if it isn’t stored properly. Collect up to 30 Mussels for initial battles, as gathering more might lead to unnecessary waste.

You will come across a few enemies called “Wisps”. They are weaker than others, but cannot be defeated without a proper weapon. It’s recommended to run away from them as soon as you get food.

Collect small stones (40 stones Recommended). Once you’ve gathered the necessary resources, find Dwarf Spruce and Flax, which will provide Fiber and Sticks. To craft the Stone Axe, obtain two of each.

You’ll need tools to progress further in the game. Once you’ve collected the resources, open up the Build Menu and select the tools you want to build. For instance, to create a Stone Axe, you’ll need to craft a piece of Rope. You can create it using the Fiber you have obtained. The small stones will be used to craft the stone blade.

Using your Axe, you can chop down trees such as the Young Fir to collect more resources. The Young Fir will provide you with items such as Resin, Long Sticks, and Bark. You can use these to craft more tools. Here is a list of items you should craft at the beginning:

  • Stone Axe
  • Wooden Hammer
  • Flimsy Club
  • Simple Torch
  • Stone Knife
  • Flimsy Shortbow

These weapons can all be crafted using Sticks, Rope, Resin, and Stone Blades. While they are durable, that doesn’t mean they can’t break.

Settlement Sites

ASKA: Beginner Tips and Tricks (6)

Once you’re done with crafting tools and collecting resources, it’s time to locate a suitable place to live. You’ll start with a very basic camp and can upgrade to a fully functional society in no time.

When choosing a place, you have to be very careful. There are certain factors you have to look out for that will determine the standard and safety of your settlement. Here is a list of locations that could be ideal for your Settlement:

Cave Stone

This is the only source of Iron Ore in the game, so building a settlement around it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Enemy Spawners

Steer clear of creepy-looking trees with enemies around them as they are enemy spawners. Building a settlement around such a location makes you prone to enemy attacks as they will keep spawning, making you prone to enemy attacks.

Shore

Building a settlement next to the beach gives access to resources such as Mussels, Reeds, and other important items. Villagers can also fish here for food.

When you’re done finding a location for your settlement, start building it. Here is a list of all the buildings you need to build for your Settlement in exact order:

  • Simple Fire (Upgrade it to Campfire).
  • Rain Collector.
  • The Well.
  • Shelter (You can sleep and regain health in the shelter).
  • The Eye of Odin (Will act as your respawn point).

Understanding Villagers

ASKA: Beginner Tips and Tricks (8)

Now is the time to bring your people to your settlement. Remember the five Blue Crystals you gathered at the start of the game? You'll be using those to attract your new citizens.

Navigate to The Eye of Odin, place the five Jotun Blood pieces inside and press the Activate button. This initiates the process of summoning the villagers.

You’ll be given an option between two villagers, both with their pros and cons, so choose wisely.

It takes about 10 minutes before your first villager comes to the settlement. It is your responsibility to provide them with a house and work. You can lend Shelter to crash in and assign the villagers to help with any of the buildings via the Settlement menu.

The citizens of the island will use tools to continue with their assignments and ensure the supply of tools is constant as their tools will lose their durability over time. Nevertheless, if you don’t assign a job to a villager, they will work randomly in any building under construction. It is recommended to let them do this at the start of your gameplay.

The villagers share the same basic needs as you do: food, water, health, and heat. They will also take breaks to rest. Meeting these needs contributes to their "Morale" meter. Keeping your workers happy boosts their morale, while neglecting their needs can have the opposite effect.

Villagers can die from being overworked or if their needs are not fulfilled.

Defending The Settlement

ASKA: Beginner Tips and Tricks (9)

If you have followed all the steps, you’ll have a total of 10 buildings and two villagers in your settlement. Now it’s time to strengthen the defense of your village. Keep in mind invasions may take place at any time during the game, which is why you’ll need to ensure you have backup to fight.

Start by building the Barracks throughout the settlement. Each Barrack has a radius keeping things in its surroundings well protected. It's advisable to build multiple Barracks around the camp for comprehensive defense coverage.

The Barracks can hold up to three villagers, each equipped with Clubs and Shields crafted at the Workshop Pit to fend off enemies. To bolster your military strength, aim to enlist as many villagers as possible. Having a minimum of 12 villagers in the army is advised for optimal defense.

Once a villager dies in battle, they will not respawn. To safeguard your villagers, it's crucial to fortify the defenses of your settlement effectively.
